Probably Late

Parent Centre

If someone in your house uses Probably Late, this page is for you. It says what the app is, what it does by default, what it keeps, and how to reach a person if something is wrong.

What the app is

A camera. You take a picture, it comes out as a polaroid, and it lands on a “roll” — an album shared with a small group of friends who were there. Friends can react with an emoji, leave a comment, and play a short voice note if one was recorded. That is the whole loop. There is no feed of strangers, no follower count, no likes to chase, and no algorithm choosing what to show.

The app is not for anyone under 13. If someone younger has made an account, tell us and we will remove it.

What is on by default

  • Seen by is off. Nobody is told when your child looks at a print, and they are not told who looked at theirs. It is a paid feature that has to be switched on deliberately, and it switches off again if the subscription lapses.
  • Notifications are few. The app only notifies about a friend request, a comment on their own print, or a new print on a roll they are on. Notices from us are capped at three a day and held between 22:00 and 07:00. There are no streaks and no “come back” nudges. The app does not even put up the permission prompt on first launch.
  • Rolls are private. A roll is seen by its members only. A roll can be made public, but there is no page in the app that lists public rolls; the only way to one is through the profile of a person on it, and a non-member can only look, not post.
  • Friends are mutual. Someone has to send a request and the other has to accept. Strangers cannot post to your child, comment on their prints, or see their rolls. Usernames can only be looked up exactly; there is no list to browse.
  • Location is never recorded. Every print is re-drawn before it leaves the phone, which strips the camera’s metadata including GPS. We never learn where a picture was taken.
  • The address book stays on the phone. Finding friends from Contacts sends only hashes, never a name or number, and only if Contacts access is granted.
  • No adverts, no tracking. There is no advertising or analytics SDK in the app at all.

What a profile shows

A username, a display name, a short bio (140 characters), a photo and a banner, the number of friends, and the names of any rolls they chose to make public. The same page is reachable on the web at probablylate.app/their-handle, so anything written there should be something they are happy for anyone to read. Prints are never on it.

Money

Is anything paid?

The app is free. Probably Late Plus is an optional App Store subscription for extras (two more looks, four more camera colours, read receipts, custom reactions, a badge, a Wallet ticket, unlimited album uploads). Because it is sold by Apple, Ask to Buy and Screen Time purchase limits apply to it like any other in-app purchase, and it is cancelled from the Apple ID’s Subscriptions screen. See Plus. There are no coins, no gifts, no loot boxes.

If something goes wrong

Blocking someone

Open the person’s page in the app and choose Block. The friendship ends, they cannot send another request, and they are not told. The list of blocked people is under Settings → Privacy & Safety → Blocked Account, where a block can be undone.

Reporting

Settings → Report a Problem opens an email to info.probablylate@gmail.com. You can write to the same address yourself. Include the username involved and, if it helps, a screenshot. We read every one.

Deleting a print or a comment

Your child can delete any print they took and any comment they wrote, from the print itself. Deleted things disappear for everyone at once and are cleared from our servers within 30 days.

Deleting the account

Settings → Danger Zone → Delete Everything removes the account and everything in it, at once. The steps are in Your account. If you would rather we did it, email us from the address the account was made with.

Leaving a roll

Anyone can leave a roll from the roll itself; their prints stay for the others unless deleted first. A roll’s owner can also remove a member.

What is stored

The account, the prints (three JPEG sizes and any voice note, in a private bucket), captions, reactions, comments, the friends list, hashes used for contact matching, a push token, and anonymous usage counts. Nothing is sold or shared with advertisers. The full list, and how long each thing stays, is in What we keep; the formal version is the Privacy Policy.
